Bell Campaign Hires New Press Secretary, State Latino Outreach Director

The Chris Bell for Governor campaign today announced that it has hired Heather Beckel Guntert as press secretary and Rowland D. Garza as state Latino outreach director.

Rowland D. Garza most recently was the field director and legislative assistant to State Representative Pete Gallego. Garza has a long history of working with Texas public officials including State Senator Frank Madla, District Attorney Frank Brown, and Del Rio Mayor Dora Alcala. Garza has also worked on the national political scene doing Latino Outreach for the DNC.

Heather Beckel Guntert started her career in politics in 1991 when she was George Stephanopoulos' assistant for several years through the 1992 presidential campaign cycle and in the Clinton White House. In 1996 she moved to Texas and was the executive director of the 21st Century Democrats, a statewide grassroots organization. Later she worked on the Texas Democratic coordinated campaign. After a decade on the East Coast working for companies such as Polo Ralph Lauren and Waterworks she recently returned to Texas where she has been working for a communications consulting firm.

"Rowland Garza and Heather Beckel Guntert will be great additions to this campaign, and we're pleased to have them on board" said Chris Bell. "It's time for all Texas Democrats to come together to realize this incredible opportunity. All we have to do to win back the Governor's Mansion is to get Democrats to vote for the Democratic nominee, and Rowland and Heather can play an important and leading role in that happening."
